A lifetime of passion in a single night...
Aaron's car breaks down on a rural road. Tired from traveling and with his cell phone dead, he decides to wait until morning before searching for help.
When a man wakes him, banging on his car window, Aaron thinks he's crazy until they're attacked by forces of evil that defy logic and usher Aaron into a world of horrors he never dreamed existed.
Once a year, evil haunts the woods on Sam's ancestral land. Sam uses his magic to keep it under control, but this year he's recovering from an accident and his magic is weak. It can be strengthened through sex, but his partner, fearing the sinister forces in the woods, has abandoned Sam. Only with Aaron's help can Sam control an ancient evil and allow them to survive the dark before dawn.
Nicely creepy, this is the story of two men fighting an evil that has roamed the woods for hundreds of years and is caused, like so many horrors, by an old curse. Sam knows what he is getting into once a year, but Aaron is an innocent and unsuspecting guy whose car just happens to stop working at the wrong point on the road. With a prologue that set eh scene quite nicely is somewhat horrifically, the rest of the tale is set in today’s day and age and tests both Sam’s and Aaron’s determination to make a stand for good.
Aaron has no idea what the consequences will be when his car breaks down and all he wants from Sam is a chance to make a phone call. Once they get to Sam’s cabin and it turns out there is no phone, Aaron is creeped out by Sam’s insistence he stay in the cabin for the night. And I can’t blame him. But then ghostly things begin to happen in the dark woods surrounding them, and I was no longer so sure Aaron has the right idea when he insists to leave. Nothing much would have gotten me to leave that nice, warm cabin – slightly creepy Sam not withstanding.
Sam tries to do the honorable thing and helps Aaron to leave the property. But he is weakened already, having had to protect Aaron, so keeping up the defenses is a problem. He is surprised when Aaron decides to help him, even while he has no idea what to do or what to expect. But Sam knows they will be stronger together than he is alone… And even though he is ready to fulfill his duties alone, it is certainly more fun to fight the spirits with the help of a partner!
If you like stories about ghosts, ghouls, and other unpleasant apparitions, if you enjoy watching two men bond over the need to fight them by any means necessary, never mind any demons trying to take over, and if you’re looking for a read that is as entertaining as it is creepy, then you might enjoy this short story.
