Paavo, of ‘Dances and Cookies' by Felicitas Ivey, once lead a fast-paced life full of lies and deceit. He woke up one day and, in spite of all the money he earned doing it, just couldn't stomach cheating even one more person. Paavo left the high pressured rat race and set himself up in a small cafe in a college town in Vermont. For the first time in a long time, Paavo is content. His new life is satisfying and secure. He has no intention of ever going back.

Despite the age difference, Paavo decides to pursue Xue, a young college student he tutored, to see where it leads. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that Xue pursues Paavo until he was “caught”. They end up in a hot and heavy session in bed together. Xue and Paavo find that, beside their differences, they enjoy each other’s company. Then an ex-coworker, Heike, shows up and tries to break them up claiming he is in love with Paavo. Paavo quickly points out that he has was never with Heike other than at work. The trick is to show Heike and everyone involved, particularly Xue, that this is true and, at the same time, nudge Heike in the direction of someone who does want to be with him.

This is a good story with lots of emotion. I liked the characters, particularly Xue, who was amusing, adorable, passionate, and fierce when necessary. Paavo was considerate, yet firm when called for and definitely hot. He handled some quite awkward situations in the story with grace and style. If you want to read a short, but satisfying love story, with passion, angst, humor, and a happy ending, then you may enjoy this tale. Thanks, Felicitas, for reminding me that happiness and contentment make a far better life than fortune and fame.
