Andie Waters spends her days pulling waste samples for environmental testing and at night, she tends bar at The Cave, a popular hangout for straights in a small Georgia town. Serial monogamy has grown stale for her, so she's content working to pay off her debts and hanging out with her old hound dog. Or so she thinks, until a beautiful lesbian drops by The Cave.Andie suspects her involvement with the woman will be only temporary. Little does she know no part of her life will be left untouched.
Kara Travis likewise anticipates nothing more than a brief fling upon meeting Andie, especially given her reputation as both a personal ice princess and a corporate hatchet wielder for Royal Environmental. What luck to find a hot lesbian bartender in nowhere rural Georgia.
Andie and Kara spend a passionate weekend together and find that their notions of no strings attached are far from accurate. Their supposed short-term ideal diversion of a commitment-free romp hits a major complication when they come face-to-face with one another at Royal Environmental's offices Monday morning.
While carrying out her duties, Kara discovers crimes being committed by and against Royal Environmental employees. Will Kara be forced to shut down the Georgia Division of the company? If she does, Andie will lose her job. Worse yet, Kara may lose Andie before she's really even sure she's got her.
Corporate politics, complicated romance, and long distances conspire to keep Andie and Kara all boxed in. Can love triumph despite the Confined Spaces?
This story has a delightful and sexy opening. Oh but the boom drops! Nevertheless, the effect and implications of the two women's initial sultry hookup pops up again around an amusing range of small town relationships, at Andie's job, and some fascinating in-depth technical info. I liked this book for the varied levels presented and I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy behind the scene details, multilevel office and small town shenanigans, plus an inside view of a specialized laboratory in action. Wonderful diversity!
Andrea Waters, who clearly prefers to be called Andie, has a second job as a bartender for financial reasons. A new customer and Andie generate all kinds of sparks between them plus in an amusingly open fashion both share with each other their common status of lesbian-lesbian in what Andie has called a really straight-straight bar. Near the end of Andie's shift, a regular client at the bar and the cook scoot Andie and her very new main squeeze out the door allowing them to hook up for a passionate connection that night and the following day. However, this linkup creates some rather awkward moments for Andie over the next two weeks and beyond. I really like Andie so I am rooting things work out for her. Fingers crossed!
Kara Travis works for Royal Environmental where she has earned a reputation of not only being an ice princess but a corporate hatchet wielder. So it was extremely uncomfortable for her and Andie when she learns that Kara is in the town of Bensonville to audit the lab where Andie works as a field sampler. Uh-oh! That lovely weekend's hot sexy romp has now exploded in both the participants’ faces. Even with this difficult extra pressure on Kara's shoulders, she is capable of maintaining herself as one formidable auditor in my estimation. She is the one who calls a complete halt to what Andie and her had started to develop as it would have been way over the top unprofessional to continue. Kara is the epitome of a very polished senior corporate representative. However, as her parents point out once again, she really could consider other professional opportunities including the ones her parents would prefer. Confusion personified!
The torrid but brief affair of Andie and Kara have before the boom lowers is followed by a whole collection of revealing vignettes. Each one illuminates another piece of the puzzle. Most of these pieces are creative new viewpoints and made the entire story most enjoyable. These tricky twists and turns worked rather well within this entertaining book. Touché for tricky!
