Can Blaise coming back to Montana turn Owen’s blue Christmas into a warm, shared Christmas of white?
Owen never thought he'd see the all-too tempting veterinary intern from the previous summer again, until his brother drops the bombshell that not only is Blaise returning, but he'll need to stay in Owen's house again until he gets settled. He's the bachelor uncle in their ranching family, and if people know what that means, no one talks about it. He can't be gay, no matter what happened in the barn last time Blaise was here…
Blaise made the life-changing decision to relocate to Montana for many reasons but with one clear goal in mind—to convince Owen of what they could share if he would only let Blaise in. He's prepared himself for a long siege, but with the help of his scheming best friend, Owen's brother, a donkey and a lot of snow, an early Christmas present might just be in store for them both.
A ‘Christmas of White’ describes this book on a couple of levels. Most obvious is the mountain of snow falling in Montana by the time I was a few pages into the story. But then more importantly, there is the second meaning for the two main characters in the book. They feel pretty blue, for different reasons, and can only hope for a white, joyful Christmas. Blaise, who has made the decision to move to Montana so he can pursue Owen, is hopeful of getting closer to Owen eventually. But it’ll take a minor miracle for anything to happen sooner.
Owen is feeling pretty blue because he will never have the kind of loving relationship his brother enjoys. Being gay in Montana isn’t easy, and Owen believes it isn’t possible—at least not openly. On top of which the man he was beginning to fall for over the summer disappointed him deeply, so he doesn’t have much to look forward to. A Christmas of white, one of joy and love, just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for him. But then Blaise turns up, all apparently prearranged by Owen’s brother, and events are set into motion that may make Owen reconsider what he thought he knew to be true.
Blaise is determined to change Owen’s mind about building a life together. They might have only shared little more than a kiss during his veterinary internship, but Blaise is convinced he sensed the potential for more between them. He didn’t exactly hide his sexuality when he was there, and people seemed to accept him, which all encourages Blaise to try again. I loved the way he put together his plan, using everything and everyone at his disposal to make his daring move a reality.
If you like Christmas stories where minor miracles somehow make everything better, if you enjoy watching two men who are clearly meant for each other finally figure things out, and if you’re looking for a read that is as entertaining as it is hot, then you will probably like this short novella.
