When Sam Yates meets Elliot at a Harwin Biotechnologies office party, he can hardly believe the tanned and muscular Adonis is interested in a nerdy scientist like himself. However, the attraction between the two men is immediate and it doesn’t take them long to act on it. It is only the next morning that Sam realizes that he’s just slept with Elliot Harwin—the company president.
The revelation leaves Sam uneasy and afraid it will look like he's trying to sleep his way up the corporate ladder. But Elliot helps him to put aside these reservations, and it isn’t long before Sam achieves the professional success and personal fulfillment he has long sought. But this newfound happiness is threatened when a jealous co-worker tells Sam that he's not the first employee with whom Elliot has been involved. With his career and love life at stake, Sam starts to wonder whether the foundation he and Elliot have constructed has been built on lies.
If you've ever daydreamed about picking up a total hottie at a company event, only later to discover he's the owner, then this is the short story for you. Not to sound shallow, or anything, but finding out the guy you just had amazing sex with is also worth billions doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. The little imp on my shoulder is screaming "Momma needs a new pair of shoes!" *smirks* Of course, that might explain why fate never blessed me in that way.
Ever since Sam was eleven years old and his father died of colon cancer, he's known that what he wanted to do with his life was be a scientist and work on finding a cure for cancer, so no one else ever has to lose a loved one. He's now been at Harwin Biotechnologies for seven years and still has not gotten onto one of the coveted cancer teams. So when he meets Elliot, the "party planner", at a company celebration, Sam is feeling sort of down. His outlook perks up considerably after the most amazing night he's ever had with anyone before. Waking up in the morning, he discovers his assumption about Elliot being a party planner is completely wrong; in fact, Elliot Harwin is the president of Harwin Biotechnologies. OMG.
Elliot admits this is the first time he's ever done something like this since he's been so busy with work for the last few years, he's had no time for a social life. Which Sam can totally understand as it's the same for him. Elliot is trying to revitalize the company and he thinks Sam's grad school work on cancer research might be an avenue to look into, but Sam is very wary because he doesn't want it to look like he's getting preferential treatment. Elliot insists and Sam's new career begins at Harwin. Unfortunately, he's left quite a few colleagues very angry at this development, and they're not going to let sleeping dogs lie.
This was a very cute short story. Nothing too over the top, with a fairly predictable story line, that was still done well enough to be entertaining. If you like short, sweet, hot, with just a little drama, then this might be for you.
