Book Blurb

As a young gay man - and a werepanther - all Jin Rayne yearns for is a normal life. Having fled his past, he wants nothing more than to start over, but Jin's old life doesn't want to let him go. When his travels bring him to a new city, he crosses paths with the leader of the local were-tribe. Logan Church is a shock and an enigma, and Jin fears that Logan is both the mate he fears and the love of his life. Jin doesn't want to go back to the old ways, and mating would irrevocably tie him to them.

But Jin is the mate Logan needs at his side to help him lead his tribe, and he won't give Jin up so easily. It will take time and trust for Jin to discover the joy in belonging to Logan and how to love without restraint.

Book Review

I loved this novel. Compelling is, I think, the way I would describe the experience of reading it.

The world building was great, everything revealed gradually, so that I was held in suspense for every new bit of information. The pieces, as they came together, all made sense to me, and the bigger picture that emerged was quite different from the 'usual' shifter world. The introduction of Ancient Egyptian mythology, in parts, was fascinating.

The characters have tons of quirks and interesting ways to look at things, enough so that the first person perspective didn't bother me at all. It went well with the gradual reveal of what was actually going on, a bit like in a mystery. Jin is a very strong man, even if he thinks of himself as weak. The fact that he falls so hard for his mate annoys him - and that made me chuckle. Logan is a bit of enigma. At first glance he looks like the typical big, strong alpha, but if you look deeper he is very vulnerable, extremely sensitive and will do anything to make Jin happy. I loved both of them.

The plot was deceptively simple, leaving more time for the other elements of the story to unfold. As it is, a lot happens in this book, much of it centered around the 'laws' of the werepanther society, which I found fascinating.

I can't wait to read the sequel so I can find out what else Jin and Logan get up to!
