Book Blurb

Sometimes giving into fate gets you to the place you most want to be.

Cary Hazard walked away from his life as the front man for the band, Cascadia, to embrace a quieter existence in Zero. With no celebrities and no one wanting things from him, he’s happy. He’s also lonely. He wants to find that one special person to warm his nights and love him—tattoos and all. Will he or end up alone again or will the hunk at the Eight Ball bar be his saving grace?

Layne Stevens has a past he’s not proud of. He’s looking for redemption, but not in the hands of a former star. If he can stay in the shadows, he’s happy, but lonely. The man singing at the bar has his full attention. He wants to wrap himself up in the guy’s strong arms. Will he be able to open up and offer his heart or will the truth destroy everything he holds dear? It’s a matter of catching Cary.

Book Review

Whirlwind romance? Yes. Drama and angst? In spades. Hot and sexy? Absolutely! This fourth volume set in Zero, Ohio is about Cary, ex-member of a band and renter of Sam's duplex (from book two) and a waiter, Layne, he meets on karaoke evening at the Eight Ball bar. With an age difference of fifteen years between them, things are hard enough. But by the time the author throws in a few more obstacles it was clear to me this would not be an easy romance.

Layne has made a few capital mistakes in his young life, and is now desperately trying to work himself free from previous obligations and the slimeball who got him into the mess. Layne works hard and is determined not to let his past catch up with him. Of course, with as nasty as his ex is, there is no hope in hell Layne will succeed at hiding everything he is so ashamed of from Cary. And when the sh*t hits the fan, he is pleasantly surprised at Cary's reaction – even though he is clearly not happy, for the first time in Laney's life, a man stands with him and helps him through the mess.

Cary may have no regrets about walking away form the life of a rock star, well not on most days, but he is still as lonely as he used to be on tour. He is also, from long-suffering experience, leery of anyone becoming interested in him because he used to be a celebrity. So Layne not recognizing him is a relief. Cary may have his doubts, but the attraction to the much younger man is strong, and he is ready. I was glad he's a little more experienced and patient than most of Layne's peers might be; the extra years mean he handles the eventual revealing of Layne's past very well.

If you like stories where a younger man meets the much older love of his life, if you enjoy reading about men who give in to their physical attraction almost from the word go, and if you're looking for a short, fun read with lots of hot action and a plot with just enough tension to make things iteresting, then you will probably like this short story.
