Book Review

Desire can get in the way of things – but, as this story shows, it can also lead to honesty, new chances, and a better life. Alec and Preston both want each other, but until Preston learns to admit he is gay and begins to consider living his life as the man he is, not the man he wants to be, that is not a possibility. Lust may be what drives them into each other’s arms, but nothing can come of it until both of them deal with their past and begin to consider the future. This story is well paced, emotionally intense as both men struggle with the truth, and focuses on the real fears of coming out as an adult.

Alec knows he wants Preston, but he also realizes it will never happen. Not after the one encounter they had in high school and Preston running from it never to talk to him again. The problem is that Alec never really got over Preston. When Alec unexpectedly runs into him at the college they both turn out to be teaching at, he has no defenses and quickly discovers the old “weakness” is still there. The one thing that has changed is that Alex is now out, and he will not go back into the closet – not even for Preston.

Preston was a jock in high school, and he is now a college coach. He is also as panicked as ever about admitting to himself that he is at the very least bisexual if not gay. The fear of losing his job is only part of it, but is holds him back. Once his being drunk opens the door to Alec and him talking, Preston quickly realizes he has never gotten over his crush on Alec (one he never admitted to). Worse than that, to his way of thinking, his lust seems to have gotten stronger, and he quickly discovers there is more than lust between them. But what about his job?

If you like stories about adults struggling with coming out, if the process of lust leading t physical intimacy, leading to more interests you, and if you’re looking for a story filled with fear, hot man-on-man-action, and clarity that comes from finally being honest, then you will probably like this novella.
