Bruny Island… a natural wonder of Australia. Is it an unspoiled, last bastion of paradise, or do death and darkness surround it?

US Marshal Dean Honeybone and his lover, Jean-Luc, are in Tasmania visiting Kaia Pendleton, the little girl who, along with Dean, is the only survivor of a plane crash off the coast of eastern Australia. Kaia, who now lives in Launceston, is not coping well with her new life with her strict grandmother, romance novelist, Kat Pendleton. Kat calls Honeybone and Jean-Luc, hoping a short visit from them will help Kaia settle down in school…however, it is soon clear neither man experiences the problems with Kaia that her grandmother does.

Both men long to take her home to the US with them, but Kat Pendleton refuses, citing Honeybone's dangerous job. Meanwhile, Cho Paek, a beautiful young Korean immigrant student has vanished on a trip to remote Bruny Island. At the request of his boss, Honeybone, takes part in the search for Cho, leaving Jean-Luc to deal with Kaia…

Book Review

I loved this third story as much as the first two. The setting is Bruny Island, off the coast of Tasmania. It sounds like an absolute paradise, coming very much alive through wonderful descriptions that set the scene for another amazing adventure.

Interestingly, the pace of this book was a little slower (it was still pretty fast compared to many others, though!). I think that was a great fit with Honeybone's growing intentions to retire. It was as if his decision to 'stop and smell the roses' became real in the speed of the story. Of course, when his help is needed to clear up a mysterious disappearance he still goes - but the separation from his lover Jean-Luc and Kaia is harder on him this time.

Jean-Luc is as wonderful as ever, and Kaia calling them both Daddy was a wonderful reminder of how important they are to her. Kat remains the harsh grandmother she has always been - but at least she does the right thing for Kaia and lets Honeybone and Jean-Luc take care of her.

A great addition to this series with yet another wonderful setting, lots of touching moments, and some very hot sex between the two lovers. Bring on volume four!
