Book Review

Remember Joel and Brent from the last book in the ‘Shibari Auction House’ series? To my delight they are back in this volume, and I got a look at their relationship six months later. As you may remember, Joel wanted to experience being a sub and sold himself to Brent for six months, no holds barred. A very risky proposition, if you ask me, and one that is only “safe” in fiction. Luckily, Brent may be a Dom with somewhat sadistic tendencies, but he turned out to be a decent guy with his sub’s best interests at heart at all times. This story is set at the end of their six-month contract, and explores how these two men, who were complete strangers but seemed ideally suited for each other, decide to move on with their lives.

Brent finds he has completely and utterly fallen for Joel. He pushed his sub’s boundaries over the last six months as they explored the kind of BDSM they both liked, and it has been a journey of discovery for both of them. Brent is determined to go for a permanent relationship, but has no idea if Joel will want that. Maybe it was all a one-time adventure for him? And after all, he might have just been in it for the money. And even though Brent doesn’t think that is the case, and definitely hopes for more, he is deliciously (well, for me) uncertain about their next steps. It doesn’t make him less determined to get exactly what he wants, and what he believes “his boy” needs.

Joel is pretty much in the same boat of wanting “forever” with Brent, but is too shy to talk about it with the man he lovingly calls Master. Partly because he doesn’t think it is his place as the sub to determine what happens between them in terms of emotions, but partly because he isn’t certain that Master Brent, gorgeous Dom that he is, doesn’t have the next sub or subs already lined up to take over from Joel. After six months together, the contract and its imminent expiry date is turning out to be the one thing that stands between them.

Brent’s solution for dealing with that particular issue is just as wonderful as the way he decides to celebrate their new status. If you liked the first book, ‘Joel’, and want to know how he and Brent are doing, and if you’re looking for some very hot BDSM scenes between two loving men, then you will probably enjoy this short story as much as I did.
