Julian Stark is a broken man. He suffered for years at the hand of his sadistic father to save his two younger brothers from the pain of punishment. Relationships have no place in his twisted life. That is, until Bradley Lawson comes along, begging to be Julian’s personal submissive.
The first time Bradley saw Julian, he was done for. Months have passed since his first encounter with the powerful billionaire, and he’s finally secured a job on Sinn with the help of Julian’s youngest brother. However, he wants to be where Julian is: On the Midnight floor. Problem? He knows nothing about the BDSM lifestyle. He despises being used, but if it guarantees him Julian’s undivided attention, he’ll become Julian’s one and only submissive.
What should have been a simple tutorial quickly turns into Julian’s biggest challenge. Is he willing to give up control in order to discover true love in Bradley’s arms? Or will he break the only man who can save him?
‘Break Me Now’ struck me as a slightly strange title for a story about two men who each desperately need love in their lives. But, as I started reading this heartbreaking story, I realized it’s a very apt description for what Julian, the oldest of the three Stark brothers who own Sinn Island, and Bradley, the man who falls for him, have to go through. Bradley is a truly amazing man for what he is willing to put himself through just to gain Julian’s attention. Things is, once he has tasted what Julian can give him, it is no longer a one-sided bargain, but a true give-and-take even before both men realize what they have gotten themselves into.
Julian, as had been hinted at in he first two books, is, in many respects, a broken man, Not on the outside – he is self-confident in a professional setting, knows how to run a business, and takes the subs he wants without hesitation. But there is also no joy in his life. On the inside, he has been broken by his domineering father, a cruel man who abused him physically and emotionally in the most horrific way. It has left Julian emotionally broken and unable to face a real relationship for fear of showing a weakness that will be used to hurt him. That’s all he has ever known, and it takes an amazing guy like Bradley to understand this and find a way into Julian’s heart. Julian, of course, fights Bradley every step of the way, but once he realizes that “breaking” doesn’t always have to be bad, the rock walls he has erected around his heart begin to break and fall.
Bradley has fallen for Julian on sight, and sees something in him few other people would be able to recognize. He operates entirely in instinct, and he knows the only way he can get close to Julian is by becoming his submissive, but he is ready to do anything for Julian. The battle as to who breaks first, and what kind of breaking they are even talking about is fascinating to watch. Bradley discovers things about himself he’d never have figured without Julian’s guidance, and vice versa. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself in that kind of a situation, but Bradley has it in spades.
If you like stories about emotionally broken men and the partners who know how to heal them, if two men finding themselves in a true give-and-take on the physical as well as the emotional level sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hot as it is touching, then you will probably enjoy this novella.
