Exiled by his pack as a teen, Omega wolf Simon Moorehead learns to bury his gentle nature in the interest of survival. When a hulking, rough-faced Alpha catches Simon on pack territory, he tries to escape what he’s sure will be imminent death. But instead of killing him, the Alpha takes Simon home.
A man of action, Mitch Grant uproots his life to support his brother in leading the Blue Mountain pack. Mitch lives on the periphery, quietly protecting everyone, but always alone. A mate is a dream come true for Mitch, and he won’t let little things like Simon’s rejections, attacks, and insults get in their way. With patience, seduction, and genuine care, Mitch will ride out the storm while Simon slays his own ghosts and Mitch’s loneliness.
It's no secret that I love shifter stories. It's also no secret that I adore Cardeno C. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard the author was writing a new paranormal series. 'Blue Mountain' is book one, and I can guarantee you're going to want to read it.
In this world the author created, alpha wolves are rarely lucky enough to find fated mates, and usually remain unmated. Omega wolves are submissive, peaceful, and calm, although most wolves consider male omegas to be completely useless to a pack. Hence the reason Simon was exiled from the Blue Mountain pack when he was twelve. The only reason he's returning to the pack lands is to bury his mother, and that's how Mitch finds him. Mitch's twin brother, Frederick, is now alpha and Mitch is his beta, although Mitch was born an alpha wolf, also.
Mitch has been waiting his whole life to find his mate, so he's ecstatic when he discovers Simon. However, Simon doesn't act like any omega wolf Mitch has ever seen before. Simon disregards all of his inborn instincts, and fights Mitch continuously. Simon doesn't recognize Mitch as his mate, and he knows better than to become aroused around another male wolf. Simon's experience is that being submissive means being hurt and tortured, so he learned a long time ago to ignore his instincts, and to stay away from packs. Unfortunately, in the process, Simon's soul is withering and dying.
This is a very different and unique shifter story. Mitch and Simon might be fated mates, but Simon has been so abused that it takes weeks of them living in the same house before Simon will let Mitch hold him on the couch during a movie. Simon is more than skittish, he's terrified of trusting not just his instincts, but anything Mitch says. This doesn't even include his fear of meeting other pack members, not even the alpha. Mitch is a little atypical also, which I'm sure is why Fate picked these two as mates. Mitch is strong, dominant, and lacking in a little charisma. His twin seems to have gotten Mitch's share, while Mitch got a double dose of protectiveness. Mitch is very happy living on the outskirts of pack land and staying in the background while keeping everyone safe.
I so enjoyed this beginning to a new series and I'm definitely looking forward to more. My only complaint? I would've loved it to be longer. *grins*
