Book Blurb

When Vinnie came to LA, he was following his dream of becoming a movie star. After a few months, however, he finds himself in the employ of one -- as personal assistant to James Spencer. The job is an odd one, a mix of nanny, minder, and best friend. The oddest part yet might hide behind the closed door James forbade Vinnie to open at the very moment he handed him the key.

As James' and Vinnie's friendship grows, so does Vinnie's curiosity, and right when everything finally starts coming together he succumbs, opening the door at the risk of losing it all.

Book Review

This is a delightful short story with humor, a small mystery (more like a secret to be uncovered), and a tiny lesson about curiosity and – not the cat – but your boss; whoever that boss may be. Vinnie certainly didn't imagine he'd ever have one like James Spencer, and I imagine Spencer wouldn’t ever have come up with a personal assistant like Vinnie.

But, let me begin at the beginning.

Vinnie has big dreams after growing up in a small town. He moves to LA in search of a career as an actor, but just cannot seem to get even a call back after the first audition. He finally gives up when he runs out of money, and applies as PA of a famous actor. This is not what he expected, nor is what happens next, but it made for great reading. I loved Vinnie's voice, and the way he tells the story made me laugh a few times. He's just so – impulsive and unrestrained! As for the door James told him to never open?

Yeah, we all know how that goes!

What he finds behind it is not at all what he expected, and I loved the ending! If you like twisted fairy tales, if you enjoy reading a new interpretation of an old story, and if you're looking for a book that will make you laugh as well as think, you will probably like this one.
