Something stronger than a blood match? The one which drives wolf shifters crazy with lust and makes them want to protect their mates at all costs – even the mate’s pride and independence? As hinted at in the blurb, there are apparently another few interesting extras linked to this “bloodlust” phenomenon. Needless to say, it had me fascinated and wanting to read this volume as soon as I got my hands on a review copy. And boy, did it match my expectations!

Jax is on the run. His little eight-year-old brother in tow, he is heading away from his home town in Alabama as fast as truckers will give him rides. With no money to speak of (all of seventeen dollars in his pocket), nothing but the clothes on their back, and the constant fear of not being able to provide, he carries a heavy burden on his nineteen-year-old shoulders. A burden that makes him do things he wouldn’t normally consider, and that is how he has his first run-in with Cade. Scared shitless by what the huge man might want from him, Jax makes a few more escape attempts before he realizes there is no point. Not that he stops fighting the weird attraction between them or standing up for himself, but the utter terror vanishes as soon as he understands that Cade will not hurt him.

Cade is an alpha on his way to finding a new home for his small pack - his cousin Zach of the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack from previous books in this series – has offered him some land. Cade is about as overbearing, domineering, and arrogant as any alpha I’ve ever met (in fiction!),  but he isn’t ready to settle with one mate. And he has always liked women more than men, so why has fate picked a man for him? Yeah, he fights the bond and what it means about as hard as Jax fights for his independence.

Luckily for them, both lose those particular battles, and they end up in an uneasy truce. Physical attraction and a common enemy will have to do the rest… If you like a struggle between the wills of two stubborn fated mates, if you enjoy reading about a smaller man who is just as strong and determined as any physically larger alpha wolf shifter, and if you're looking for a shifter story with a slight twist, then you will probably like this ninth novella in the series.
