What they don’t expect is to find themselves caught up in her pack’s struggles with local human hunters or a growing conflict among the supernatural communities.

Jed is abruptly faced with what it means to be human in a world rife with the supernatural, and the challenges keep piling up: fear that his way of life is hurting his Redford, sparks flying between the half-blood Victor and wolf Randall, the impending threat of hunters, and the quickly approaching war that could kill them all. All things considered, Jed wishes fishing was the only thing he had to look forward to.

 

Book Review

After liking the first two books in the series so much, I didn’t think it was possible to like this one more. WRONG! Everything just got better in this third volume: Jed and Redford’s relationship deepens, gets tested to its limits as they overcome obstacles both big and small, and to me, this entire book is a document proving their love. What I also loved is that Victor is back (the stuffy professor from book two), this time with a man who seems more likely to be right for him, no other than Randall Lewis, who was rescued from the vampires in book two. Add to that Knievel the cat, who has slowly evolved into a character in her own right, and hits the stage running in this book, so to speak. The whole setting and background, unraveling mysteries and new secrets alike, definitely held my attention for all 440 pages of this amazing novel. Stunning!

Jed finally wants to go fishing. It’s a holiday he talked about in book one, made real plans for in book two (then got “sidetracked” by their trip to Egypt), and is determined to take at the beginning of book three. Unfortunately, the vacation will have to wait. He has a secretive wolf pack to find, his role in Redford’s life to figure out, and a few explosions to set off while he rescues all kind of people, both human and shifters. Jed is definitely a busy man but his sense of humor and sense of superiority remain intact, much to my relief.

Redford still battles the voices in his head as his wolf becomes stronger, yet when he finds himself in the middle of a pack of wolves, he doesn’t fit in either. The one thing he does know is that he belongs with Jed, and no matter what anyone else says, the usually quiet and slightly shy man becomes insistent when his relationship with the man he loves more deeply than he can express is threatened.

Victor and Randall are quite the pair. Neither is fully human, they both feel a strong attraction, but they don’t have the unbreakable bond that Jed and Redford have managed to forge. Their interests are quite different, and Randall has the added complication of feeling responsible for finding a cure for his brother Anthony, no matter what the cost. Werewolf “royalty” in the form of the Gray Lady adds another layer to the story, as do all the pack and shifter politics that suddenly get uncovered.

If you like action/adventures of the supernatural kind with a good deal of mythos and mystery added in for good measure, if you enjoy reading about more than one couple’s relationship as it develops, and if you want to know how Jed and Redford are up to instead of taking a long-deserved vacation, then you need to read this novel. For me, it is the best of the series, and I can only hope there will be another book and that it will be published soon. The whole series is amazing!
