"What doesn't kill me - had better start running..." - Storm Gennaro
When the past calls Storm Gennaro for assistance, he willingly comes to help the man who walked away from him. Thirty years is a long time to be parted from the one person meant to stand at your side forever.
Heath Madden is sick, and his family calls Storm to help save him. All the hurt and betrayal suffered at the man's hands resurfaces, but not everything is as it seems.
The past has come back to wreak havoc on their lives, and as they dig deeper, they realize they aren't the only ones whose lives are being played with.
It's been a long time since I read a book about the fae. I've read a lot of paranormal, but lately it tends to involve shifters, vampires, witches, demons, and the like. It's as if the fae have become unpopular so I was happy to jump into NJ Nielsen's latest 'Blessed with a Curse'. I am also pleased that this is the first book by this author that I have read because I do love expanding my list of authors I've read and experiencing all that is out there for me.
Storm is fae and when he found his mate, Heath, by fae law Storm should have either turned away from him or joined Heath in being shunned as Heath is a defect fae, having been born one of a set of triplets. Storm chose to remain with his mate as he loves Heath. Someone doesn't want them together, however, and has spent considerable time in the past thirty years making it seem, to Heath, that Storm is a cheater and has never been faithful. Whoever they are, Heath has now been poisoned, and once he and his siblings realize all the lies they believed about Storm were untrue, it's time for them all to discover the purpose behind this deceit.
The excitement, intrigue, and action continues as Storm, Heath and their family, comprised of blood and chosen, discover who poisoned Heath, and that the Malu, the fae's shadow warriors, are also involved. This means the betrayal extends far into the fae world and that the many disappearances over the past century of young men, both human and fae, somehow lead back to all of this deception. Why have Storm and Heath been kept apart? What purpose does it serve to have kept Trace and Ian from becoming mates as well?
This was a very exciting book that ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. I'm really hoping the next book comes out soon or else I'm going to really be hounding the author for more. Thank you, NJ, for a super fun story!
