Thomas and Matt are honeymooning, but life interrupts them. For Thomas…the past is catching up to him and for Matt, the future is too.
Thomas and Matt have left their honeymoon hideaway in Black Point to join the rest of Matt's family in a beautiful house on a beach on the windward side of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. It is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but disaster strikes…repeatedly.
Fate throws the newlyweds one curve ball after another. Unexpected family arrivals and challenges with Thomas's new movie Last Chance rival a near fatal encounter with a tiger shark...they both yearn for the peace, the sanity and the shelter of their private paradise in Black Point…

Successful gay romance writers Matt and Thomas want nothing more than to enjoy their honeymoon in the tropical paradise that is Hawaii, but it is not meant to be. Or rather, there is lots of enjoyment of the physical kind, but they keep getting interrupted. There are sharks and nightmares, more than one panic about their niece, and then there are various family members to deal with. As usual in this series, the setting is amazing, the food descriptions are hunger-inducing, and the sense of humor made me laugh more than once.
Thomas is ecstatic to be married to the man he loves to distraction. He is a very emotional guy, so each time something unexpected happens, he reacts visibly and creates lots pf drama. He still has to deal with a cowriter he never really wanted, there is his first Hollywood script to deal with, and then the bombshell of all bombshells lands at his feet. His mother-in-law, well-meaning woman that she is, thought it a good idea to invite Thomas’s estranged mother for a visit. It almost pushes Thomas over the edge. And the more he reveals about his childhood and why he never wants to see her again, the more I felt for him. What a mess!
Matt wants nothing more than to make Thomas happy. But he has trouble understanding and dealing with the wide mood swings Thomas tends to have. It just takes Matt some time to catch up sometimes, and he does that well. Matt never knew anything about Thomas’s mother, since Thomas never talks about her, so he is surprised and decides to get to the bottom of what is going on. He is supportive throughout, even though he doesn’t have the full picture, and that is as it should be. It does become clear that Matt desperately wants kids with Thomas, but he is pretty resigned to the fact that Thomas might not be so enthusiastic… at least for now.
Matt’s brother, Ryan, and his husband, Cole, are part of the cast again, and they add joy as well as tension. All the other secondary characters populating the pages have their own contributions to make, some funny – like Matt’s mother’s attempts to put Matt’s dad on a diet, and some cute – like Thomas and Matt’s little niece, Daphne. The tone of this sequel is exactly in line with what I have grown to love about this series: lots of humor, extremely hot with lots of loving at every opportunity, and an increasing amount of drama as the story develops. And reading it the second time around was just as much fun as the first!
If you like your romances hot and steamy, if various obstacles keeping two lovers distracted while they are trying to enjoy their honeymoon are your thing, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with emotional tension, a cruel mother, lots of drama, and an ending promising more, then you will probably like this novella as much as I do. Reading this again was fantastic – and I can go straight to the fourth volume this time.
