What happens when the man you think you want isn’t the man you need?

After his high school sweetheart breaks up with him, Benny Allenbrand arrives at college intent on winning back Chase. Unfortunately, Chase isn’t speaking to him, forcing Benny to seek comfort elsewhere.

Jamie Whitmore is the son of a conservative senator from Connecticut, and on his own after coming out to his father. His life is messy enough without falling in lust with a six-foot-seven football player who happens to be in love with another man.

What starts out as a purely physical relationship between Benny and Jamie soon has both men embroiled in political controversy. Will the media coverage tear them apart or bring them together?

Book Review

Ever since the events in ‘Coming Clean’, book eighteen in the ‘Campus Cravings’ series, I have been hoping for Benny’s story. He was completely in love with Chase, devastated when Chase left for college a year ahead of him, then totally destroyed when Chase ended up falling in love with Mac. Chase may have understood that Benny and he were better friends than lovers, but Benny certainly has not. At the beginning of this book, it is finally time for him to follow Chase to college, and he is determined to win back the man he thinks he still loves.

Benny really struggles with his love for Chase. He gets extremely angry when he sees Chase with his new lover – not angry enough to trash a car like he did before, but still. He worried me. And his idea of winning back Chase is clearly a harebrained plan, but Benny does not see the truth. Almost worse than that, he starts to see Jamie “for sex only”. Benny is so blinded by his obsession that he misses all the signs of what is going on with him and Jamie – until it is almost too late.

Jamie has never had an ideal home life, so he doesn’t know what being loved like for himself feels like. He knows that Benny is still pining for Chase, Benny is too honest to hide it, but Jamie cannot help but fall for Benny, landing him in a whole lot of emotional trouble. And the situation with a bast*rd of a father doesn’t make things easier, but Jamie gradually learns that he’ll have to fight back. Powerful and self-centered politicians like his father don’t just go away. I loved watching Jamie come to the realization of what he has to do, then he pulls it off with determination and grace.

If you like stories about men who have to fight for the right to be who they were born to be, if two college students learning the truth about whom they can trust sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a coming of age story that is as emotionally intense as it is hot, then you will probably like this latest installment of the ‘Campus Cravings’ series.
