Ryan, beta of the Trinity Valley pack, has waited a long time for his alpha Kevin to finish grieving for his departed mate. One thousand and eight hundred days. Nearly fifty thousand hours to be exact, and Ryan is done shadowing Kevin and wanting him from afar. Whether Kevin wants it or not, Ryan is about to yank him back to reality by making Kevin his.
This story is also included in Exchange of Power Anthology.
The role of the best friend, and how close friendship can come to love, is the theme of this very short, very hot story. Ryan may be the beta of his pack and Keven the alpha, but in terms of knowing what each of them wolf shifters want, it seems that Ryan has the advantage. And my, does he make use of it.
Ryan undergoes quite the transformation in this story. And no, I don’t mean that he shifts into his wolf. In fact, there is no shifting at all, only lots of growling. It seems that Ryan has been waiting for five years, ever since Kevin’s mate died, hoping that Kevin will see how much more than a loyal beta Ryan could be to him. But Kevin is too caught up in his grief, so Ryan finally mans up and makes the first move. It may be hard for him, what with him always being supportive and in the background, but the distress he feels about being ignored and the desperate hope that Kevin may change his mind helps him gather his courage and go for it. Yay Ryan!
If you like shifter stories with a slight twist, if you enjoy two men finally realizing their potential, and if you’re looking for a hot read with lots of unrequited feelings finally being resolved, then you will probably enjoy this short story. It may not be what you expect, but if you like surprises – go for it!
