Welcome to the world of Rescue for Hire. Meet the team members that make up a company that form a family of heroes. Cade Miller is the owner of the company and is a dominating alpha in mind and body. Cade rescues Bret James on a mission. The instant connection between the two cannot be denied, and he decides to keep him.
Bret may have submissive qualities that mesh completely with the big bear, but it is his mischievous side that keeps Cade on his toes and coming back for more.
But Bret has evil stalking him. When the past wants revenge, can Cade discover who has taken Bret and stop him from being a victim again? The team will have to use all of their skills to rescue Bret before all hell breaks loose. Because when the big, bad alpha is crossed, nothing will stop him from getting his pup back.
Having enjoyed a number of other books by Bellann Summer, and loving strong, dominant men as much as I do, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the description for 'Bear's Pup' would lure me right in. The prospect of a brand-new-to-me series involving alpha men and smaller partners, in this case a bear and his pup, and a rescue-for-hire agency was just too much for me to withstand and I had to read it.
I knew I was going to like and respect Cade within a few pages of reading. He and the four men who make up his crew perform mostly rescues within the United States, and they get called in by towns during snowstorms, power outages, flooding, and hostage situations. To hear Cade talk about rescuing people from dying of hypothermia or many other myriad issues that can occur when we face the wrath of Mother Nature, just made me see him as a strong, compassionate man. Definitely a dominant alpha, but a good man.
When Cade and his team rescue Bret as he's being carried on the river currents, something in Cade screams he's got to take this little guy home and protect him. Cade can tell immediately that something horrible happened to him, because even being dragged down a river during a flood doesn't leave perfectly spaced welts from the soles of the feet to the tops of the shoulders on both sides. Cade is furious when Bret recounts his last week's of torture at the hands of a wannabe Dom, Keith.
After settling in together with the beginnings of a strong and loving relationship, strange things start to happen, leaving Cade on edge and willing to do whatever is needed to protect Bret. It didn't take a genius to guess what was going to happen, but even being able to predict the drama didn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I was proud of Bret for gaining some courage, and I really liked seeing the whole team working together.
A fun, sexy read that reminded me of how insanely hot it can be to have your love be your everything.
