Book Blurb

Steven Garvey and best friend Mark Huffman have dreamed of being a police officer and a firefighter since grade school. The years didn’t dim their dreams or their friendship. What did change is nerdy Steven’s very adult crush on his studly, playboy, firefighting pal.
Steven wants so much more than quality time with his hand and Mark’s Men of Ladder Fifty Nine calendar spread. But when Mark gives him a playful kiss, it’s going to take a ballsy move to get what he wants, or end their friendship in heartbreak.

Book Review

People discover new things about themselves and/or their friends all the time, right? With lifelong friends it may be less likely, because they are supposed to know each other super-well, but it is possible. As this story shows, when that does happen, and when the "discovery" is pretty earth-shattering, the consequences can be either awful – or brilliant. It is the risk of having it turn out to be awful that might stop someone from even trying. Which is exactly what has Steven and Mark in a few confused mental knots until they manage to clear the air.

Steven is the first of the two men who recognizes that his feelings for his best friend have changed. He is afraid their friendship will be destroyed if he admits it, so he "suffers" in silence. It is a tough thing to do, especially when Mark suddenly kisses him. While he might normally just give in, he is afraid his heart will break once Mark realizes he's done it in the heat of the moment. There is nothing Steven fears more than being discarded by Mark, like the man gets rid of all his other one-night stands.

Mark is taking a little longer to understand what is going on with him. The facts that he's never had a relationship longer than one night, added to the feelings he had when he impulsively kissed Steven one evening, make him think. For the first time in years he actually analyzes what is going on between the two and comes to an amazing result. The only remaining issue is whether both of them will be ballsy enough to admit the truth and to go after what they want.

If you like the "friends to lovers" scenario, if you enjoy reading about hot men who realize they may have more than a common past, and if you're looking for some hot and somewhat kinky action between the sheets, you may like this short story.
