Johnny Fabian and his lover, Nelson, have been home in their little country town of Ojai from their exotic Caribbean vacation for several weeks, but Johnny’s getting worried. Nelson, the local vet, claims to be busy—too busy—to see Johnny on a regular basis. Johnny’s worried that Nelson’s lost that loving feeling and Nelson’s suggestion that Johnny should start dating other people confirms it.
Johnny soon discovers gay dating in a country town can be catastrophic, especially when his heart belongs to Nelson. Coping with his newly discovered homosexuality isn’t easy, but Johnny soon learns that love, like Santa, comes in unexpected ways.
NOTE: This story was previously published by eXtasy Books in December 2010. This reissued version of the story has been revised and reedited.
Set a few days after the end of the first book, this sequel continues Johnny and Nelson’s story. Johnny no longer struggles with his sexuality, but he does struggle with Nelson's request to date other men. Nelson wanting to take things slowly confuses Johnny; it makes him realize how lonely he is, and it takes a while for him to work out what’s going on. As humorous as the first volume, this is another quick, fun read with a Christmas setting but not too much Christmas spirit, and lots of very entertaining situations and comments that made me laugh.
Johnny faces the difference between a vacation fling and real life in this story. Nelson is behaving strangely now that they are at home again, and if not for his friends, Johnny would be a lot more desperate. He simply isn’t interested in anyone else, and comments like "I'm all gayed up with no place to go", and "Where and how did I start dating? Gays R Us?" make clear that he is reluctant to follow Nelson’s suggestions. Nelson (once he redeems himself) is as great as ever. And some of the great secondary characters are also back, including a new animal in Johnny's backyard.
If you enjoyed the first book in this series (which should be read first), if you are a fan of Christmas without wanting to go overboard, and if you’re looking for a quick, entertaining read, then you will probably like this novella.
