Kedon can’t wait to go on the three-week break from school. His parents are off on vacation for two of them and Kedon’s going to have the entire house to himself. Except he forgot about a school science project, one that will be half of the grade he needs to graduate.
The project? Members of the class need to “partner up” and take a baby home. Luckily, it’s only one of those computerized infants, and Kedon’s convinced it’s not really a physiological exercise in “The Effects of a Child on a Young Couple,” but a not-so-veiled attempt at sex education—as in not having any.
And to top it off, the great Tarell Alan has decided Kedon is going to be his “wife” for the project. But Kedon’s not worried. Tarell did it only to prove a point. He isn’t really going to spend the whole three weeks helping Kedon to take care of a baby, especially one that seems to cry all the time.
But Kedon is wrong. Tarell actually does intend to spend the three weeks with him, particularly when he learns that Kedon’s parents are away. And soon, Kedon is constantly on his feet, walking a colicky mechanical baby and dodging the advances of a horny daddy! What’s a boy falling in love with his handsome and popular classmate to do?

This is a hilariously funny, sweet romance between two high school students who are suddenly not only facing their raging hormones, but the sudden responsibility of taking care of a baby. It’s all for a psychology school project, but certainly Kedon and to some degree Tarell take it a lot more seriously than I expected. It makes for great entertainment, and a sweet modern-day fairy tale that has plenty of romance, hot moments, and a touching ending.
Kedon is a bit of a loner. His classmates have never really noticed him, and the few times when they have, it did not end well for him. His two best friends are gay, so he is as well – just by association. The truth is that he is gay as well, and has been lusting after the totally unattainable, supersexy and ultrarich Tarell, whose family runs the city. Kedon is shocked to find out Tarell picks him to partner with for the “baby project”, and only gradually realizes Tarell is serious about him. Not that they even get around to doing anything, not with a colicky baby around, even though she is only a doll. Kedon has a big heart and a vivid imagination, and he needs a good science grade.
Tarell has had his eye on Kedon for a while. Initially all he wants is inside Kedon’s pants, but as he gets to know his classmate better and begins to understand what truly drives him, Tarell falls deeper than he ever thought possible. Suddenly keeping him safe and happy, making him smile, is more important than almost anything else. And with someone else after Kedon, Tarell has his hands full. He learns some valuable lessons while he is at it, one of them that money cannot buy everything.
If you like stories that sweep you off your feet into a fairy tale like version of the present, if two high school students in their senior year struggling with the reality of life seem interesting, and if you can suspend your disbelief and enter a world where romance and heat go hand in hand with new love and sleepless nights, then you will probably like this novella as much as I did. I loved it from beginning to end, and ran the gamut of emotions from laughing my head off to shedding a few tears. If you’re looking for a fun, uplifting read, give this one a try.
