Book Review

Kendall McKenna is a favorite author of mine, so I was excited when I discovered she'd written book four in the 'Storming Love: One Storm, Twelve Men' series and it involved a Marine. This author is particularly gifted at writing military men, and, since I'm very familiar with the locations depicted in this book, and, there's a K-9 unit, well…that's a trifecta win for me.

Troy is a typical Marine, which means he stands head and shoulders over most other men, and I mean that figuratively. Yes, I'm extremely biased as I have two nephews and a niece in the Corps. Troy has just gotten to Camp Lejeune, and found a home to rent, when he goes through his first hurricane. After, he gets a call to see if he'd be willing to volunteer to help with rescue operations in some of the harder hit areas. Troy gets paired with Austin, and his K-9 search and rescue, Decker.

Nine years active duty, with three deployments, has given Troy plenty of ugly memories, and the accompanying issues that can come from them. Helping these people locate survivors is a whole lot more satisfying than having been the one to kill. Unfortunately, for them, it looks like the apartment buildings and neighborhoods that were flattened by the storm, are also the newest, which means the insurance investigators are on the ground to start determining who was at fault.

As I've always found with this author, her level of detail and knowledge of military procedure is more than impressive. Reading her descriptive writing, I felt as if I was right there, on the ground, working alongside Troy, Austin, and Decker. I loved the book even more because of it. An absolutely excellent addition to the series. I can't recommend this enough.
