Can the rebels with a cause change their ways, or will they miss their chance?

Wild, rebellious, and rakish, Cade’s been a bad boy since the day he was born. Don’t get him wrong—he’s as aware of his faults as he is his virtues, and he thinks he’d be better off without a mate of his own. He’d be a hell of a handful to keep up with.

Then a chance encounter brings Cade into Dennis’ path. Blind since birth, Dennis prides himself on being plainspoken and knowing how to have a good time. He isn’t looking for a soulmate either, but after meeting Cade he’s tempted to change his mind.

Book Review

“Get your motor runnin'. Head out on the highway. Looking for adventure, in whatever comes our way...Like a true nature's child, we were born to be wild. ... Born to be Wild. Born to be wild.” ~ Steppenwolf

After seeing what a soulmate relationship conflict did to his eldest brother, Cade, of 'As We Are' by Willa Okati, has decided that it will be easier and less painful not to find his. He thinks he's satisfied cruising and hooking up with anyone who comes along. Even though his brother and soulmate are back together and happy, Cade figures he can't miss what he's never had and doesn't expect it to have it happen to him. These are famous last words.

Cade has always acted like nothing in the world affects him. Even though his brother and friends tell him about the impossibly strong pull of having a soulmate, Cade can't believe anyone or anything can be that good. He looks at those who are settled in a relationship with distain and loves the freedom he has without one. That's until he meets Dennis at a party that he wasn't even supposed to attend. He went with his younger brother and ended up staying and hooked up with Dennis. It essentially opens Pandora's Box for these two confirmed bachelors and hits them both broadside. It ramps up the soulmate bond faster than they could imagine bringing out the unparalleled passion and causing their soulmarks to bloom fast and furiously.

Dennis is shocked to find that he's so attracted to Cade. It's frightening and threatening and he's not so sure he wants to be attached. He suggests they be friends, fooling himself into thinking he can deny the primal draw of his intended mate. How could this have happened? Dennis tries to pull back, but it's impossible. The forces, dormant before, can not be denied. He and Cade are caught in a web and their worlds are turned upside down, wanting the powerful feelings they have tried to deny and wanting to run as far away from them as possible. As they go back and forth in their struggle, they know they can't do both. They also know that this decision will define their futures.

Cade has been so difficult throughout all the other books, so haughty and bold, hiding his goodness to protect his bad boy attitude. I couldn't wait for fate to catch up with him and show him that sometimes what we think we want is definitely not what we get or need and I enjoyed his and Dennis's conflicted feelings trying to convince themselves and each other of the pros and cons of a relationship. It was very difficult to refrain from saying na-na-na-na-na! Fans of the series will like this sexy, angsty addition to the ‘Soulmarked’ series. If new to the series, I advise you to begin with the first story and read through in sequential order to understand the characters and their histories before attempting this one. Thanks, Willa, for a great addition to the series.
