Rand never sets out to find trouble. He’s a lone wolf and he likes it that way. Too bad he always seems to attract the kind of jerk who wants to start a fight, even in a tiny Colorado town where he stops to have a beer. What surprises him when he wins this fist fight, though, is what kind of perks come with the victory.
Tate knows he looks big and strong and that he ought to be able to overthrow the alpha of his tiny, damaged pack. Too bad he’s really more omega than alpha, or even beta, and all he wants it to be a strong wolf’s bottom boy. When the pack tells him about Rand, Tate thinks he might have found the solution to all of his problems. Now he just has to convince Rand to stay.
“Accidental Alpha” could be the title of this book. Rand made me laugh when he defends himself in a bar, knocks out the guy who was being nasty in one go, and finds he has just beaten the much-detested alpha of the local pack. Not that Rand is interested – and that is where Tate comes in, and the story begins. It is full of a resistant alpha, funny moments, and sexual and other tension.
Rand, as a lone wolf, really isn’t cut out for pack life. But now he has to deal with it, at least until the pack van vote for a new alpha whom Rand will have to approve. Let me tell you, Rand isn’t good at anything resembling social skills! Luckily he has Tate, who may not be a strong alpha (not even close), but he knows his way around the pack and is a supreme politician. Rad also quickly finds out that Tate has other interesting qualities – but those are just for the two of them to enjoy in the privacy of what quickly becomes “their” bedroom.
Tate is desperate to convince Rand to stay. He doesn’t have the temperament to be an alpha, but he is a great second-in-command and very good with people. He’ll do anything to keep Rad interested, but this is no hardship for Tate. He feels attracted to Rand from the first moment he sets eyes on him, and even though he is a bottom boy through and through, Tate knows exactly how to get what he wants out of the “arrangement” he offers in a bid to make Rand stay.
If you like strong alphas and determined omegas, if two men who complement each other perfectly are your thing, and if you’re looking for a fun paranormal read with lots of humor, a touch of suspense, and quite some kinky heat, then you will probably like this short story.
