Logan has a past he doesn’t want to talk about, and after tonight, he intends to leave everything behind, including his all-consuming and unrequited love for Ryder.
Uncertain of his future, he stumbles upon a bar oddly named Logan’s Intoxicating Fantasy. Unable to curb his curiosity, he enters the establishment. Soon, he drinks the Amber Moon cocktail a wise old bartender named Solomon puts in front of him and finally walks into a new future. Maybe even to find a new love.
But is that what Solomon had in mind when he suggested the drink? Perhaps the strange bartender knew something Logan didn’t, like some things can’t stay in the past, including Ryder...especially if Ryder fully intends to be Logan’s future...
Give me a good reunion story, and I’m a happy reader. ‘Amber Moon’ is about two men separated by misunderstandings, nasty so-called friends, and some pretty awful family members. But there is also a wonderful supernatural/magic twist that made my head spin, and added a nice touch and a mysterious “fate wanted these two to be together” vibe that I really enjoyed.
Logan is trying to forget the past, but is not doing a very good job. He keeps telling himself that crushing on Ryder, a total jock, in high school was a mistake, but even fourteen years later he cannot get the man out of his head. When the circumstances of the traumatic events that caused his hang-up emerge, I have to say it was pretty bad. Logan never had closure, and isn’t allowing himself to finally give up. Until he decides to sign up for some classes at the mysterious Amber Moon art studio so he can get back into drawing…and instead is told to return at ten that night. What he finds is a bar and when he walks in, he believes he entered the Twilight Zone. I have to agree, that is exactly what the events that follow look like to me. I can’t say much more without spoiling the surprise, but I think this story is well worth your while.
If you like stories with a touch of magic / unexplained mystery / reminders of the Twilight Zone, if a reunion between lovers separated by fate is something you like reading about, and if you’re looking for a sweet and slightly magical story that will touch your heart, then you will probably like this novella.
