McCormack's damned if he'll be the next of Marcus's friends to find himself set up by Bret, and as Valentine's Day approaches, he's especially wary. But, apparently, it's not Bret’s plans for him he should be worried about.

When Mr Tomlinson asks McCormack for a favour, he finds himself going along with it, even though babysitting a novice who has all the gear, but no idea what to do with any of it, is the last thing he wants to do on Valentine's night.

Theo is nothing like the experienced subs McCormack usually plays with, but he soon finds himself captivated by Theo's clumsy yet earnest attempts to please him.

It really does seem like opposites attract, and everything is perfect—right up to the moment when McCormack discovers that one of his friends has a hidden agenda where Theo is concerned.

Book Review

“There was probably someone running an internet store somewhere, who was very happily counting his profits. The little fool looked like he’d bought one of everything, and probably two of whatever was on sale.” — McCormack’s first impression of Theo

“Tonight was supposed to be BDSM 101 with someone like him, Theo reminded himself, someone who was just starting to find his feet in the shallow end of the kinky pool. This guy, well, he wasn’t a 101 kind of guy.” — Theo’s reaction to meeting McCormack

This fourth story in Kim Dare’s ‘Kinky Cupid' series is as delightful as the other three, and rereading this one was definitely not a hardship, on the contrary. I love the idea of someone with “all the gear” needed for BDSM but with no idea what it is for or how to use it – only a burning desire to find out. That way surprises are practically guaranteed – especially since Bret, the Valentine’s matchmaker of the series, is at it again. He may be a sub – but he is the master of figuring out the right BDSM and life partner for pretty much anyone. The tongue-in-cheek humor is just perfect, the submissive is the clueless one this time, and the Master is a tough guy who doesn’t give an inch.

Theo thinks he knows what he’s getting himself into. Well, sort of. He wants to submit, but the details totally elude him. When McCormack approaches him, Theo blindly follows his direction and is thrown into shock after shock of discovery. It is a good thing he is so determined, because McCormack sure isn’t the type to mollycoddle a sub, nor give him any sort of emotional support. Lucky for him, Theo seems to be happy with the smallest signs of approval.

To be honest, McCormack was a little much for me. Yes, he has very clear ideas about safety and what can or cannot be done during consensual play. Teaching Theo about "what real submission is about" may be what he sets out to do, but I cringed at his methods. His willingness to protect Theo and make him his own shows only slowly, but it was a great relief. With all his gruffness it is still clear that he has Theo’s best interests at heart and he turns out to be the perfect fit for Theo.

I really liked the way this story is written: with tons of humor and two very different characters – the contradictions made it a lot of fun to read. The additional scenes were just what this story needed t be even more enjoyable, and as for the additional twist around who Theo is and why he is important to the club is pure genius. Their relationship is only just beginning, but it’s very clear that they are heading toward long-term.

If you like a little kink with your romance, if Doms who are possessive without showing emotion are your thing, and if you want to watch a sub who has no idea what he is getting into, then you will probably like this novella as much as I do. It’s too bad that this looks like the final volume of the series… I would definitely read more stories in this world!
