Werewolf Beta Alessio Esteban believes rules exist for a reason…until a one-night-stand turns out to be more than he bargained for. A powerful hunter with a submissive heart, Kelias Cervantes is Alessio’s perfect match, but Kelias comes with strings attached. The heat threatening to erupt between Alessio and Kelias is undeniable, and Alessio can’t help but lust for the forbidden.
As a half-blood demon raised by a fanatic group of human hunters, Kelias is the best in his field. He has one job. Assassinate the Beta of the Darkfall Mountain Pack and cripple the pack’s power structure. Failure means death, but the last thing Kelias wants is to kill Alessio. Kelias knows he shouldn’t want Alessio this much. He has trouble refusing the domineering Beta but he simply can’t abandon all his beliefs and the only family he’s ever known. Will accepting Alessio’s mating call trigger their fall?
In the previous three installments of the 'Darkfall Mountain Pack' series, Alessio has been my least favorite character. I was hoping that his story would give me a better insight into his personality and maybe, just maybe, get him to lose a little control. I understand that as the beta for their pack, Alessio's job is to follow the rules and ensure order but I wanted to see him let his hair down… at least once.
Kelias is a child of rape, his mother a member of the Order of the Knife who got caught by a top-dwelling demon. She died giving birth to Kelias and he was taken in by the Order, raised, and trained to fight just like his mother. There are many at the Order who dislike him and don't consider him part of their brotherhood, but Kelias is very good at what he does. And now he's been given the opportunity to strike back at the Darkfall wolves who butchered his brethren. Kelias is sent to assassinate Alessio, beta of the pack.
Interesting way to stalk your prey, Kelias. Picking him up at a bar and going home with him for very hot sex. Kelias couldn't seem to stop himself though. There was something about the shifter and Alessio was having just as much trouble staying rational around the half-demon. The Order tried everything over the years to beat Kelias's softer side out of him but to no avail. He knows his duty, but his attraction and his gut instincts tell him Alessio is not what he's been told.
An extremely thrilling addition to the series that I enjoyed immensely. I really liked the resolution at the end and now I'm looking forward to more.
