Book Blurb

At the request of his aunt, Medium Maxim Thomas travels to the London mansion of actor Ian Northhill to search for paranormal dangers. The first-born sons in Ian's family have all died on their thirty-fourth birthday, and Ian's is just around the corner. The problem is, he doesn't believe in ghosts, demons or curses.

When Maxim and Ian meet, they're overwhelmed by lust, but great sex doesn't change Maxim's bitterness toward actors or Ian's loathing of "phony" psychics. Unable to ignore their desire for each other, the men try to overcome their prejudices. While Ian performs a retelling of Jekyll and Hyde on stage, a real life Jekyll and Hyde plots to destroy him. Will Ian trust Maxim enough to allow his lover to save him from the family curse?

Book Review

A family curse foretelling Ian’s death at thirty-four, mutual distrust between the two main characters, Maxim and Ian, and prejudice all over the place make a good setting for this intense mystery/drama. It starts with a personal bang between the two main characters, who each think the other is an idiot – or worse. Then the tension slowly builds as the true issue is revealed, and the final suspense around Maxim trying to save Ian’s life had me quite worried.

Maxim is a medium and when his aunt asks him to help her employer, successful actor Ian, Maxim travels to London to check it out. He hates actors, partly based on bad personal experience with one, but when he meets Ian, the sparks fly and Maxim begins to reconsider. He is taken aback by Ian’s vehement denial of anything supernatural being real, but he cannot detect any ghost in Ian’s house, so he is thrown for a loop. As the relationship with Ian gets more intense, Maxim is more determined to help – even if Ian’s problem is not a ghost. He calls in some friends who specialize in other parts of the supernatural spectrum, but even with their help, it’s a close call.

Ian is a good actor, but he works very hard for his success and doesn’t understand why Maxim is so contrary. When Ian finds out why Maxim came to see him and that he specializes in ghosts, Ian is the one whose prejudice almost drives them apart. But the attraction is stronger than his mistrust, and as weird things begin to happen, Ian is forced to reexamine his beliefs.

If you like stories about curses, ghosts, and the supernatural creepy-crawlies, if amen who believe they can never have a relationship due to their differences are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is hot, suspenseful, and intense, then you might like this novella.
