Jake Taylor was just looking for some fun at the gay bar outside of his tiny ass town. He never expected to see a man who made the world shift beneath his feet.
Morgan Anson is young and good looking, and just Jake's type. It's weird that he feels an immediate jealousy of everyone Morgan dances with. He needs to get the man home, right now, and make him his. Jake just never expected to wake up the following morning next to a wolf.
Morgan didn't mean to shift. It was an accident, but he was so comfortable and happy next to his mate, that it just sort of happened while he slept.
They can't stay away from each other for long, however, though Jake knows he should, and even though Morgan is considered a curse on his pack, Jake will have to prove himself to the alpha if he plans on taking Morgan out of his abusive pack forever.
A solid start to a new series, this first book introduces a world where humans do not know about werewolves, packs are ruled by the most aggressive of several alphas, betas are kind and supportive, and omegas have no say at all and are servants – if they’re lucky. Morgan is one of those omegas, and his story is heartbreaking. Jake takes a while to figure all of this out, being “just” a human rancher, but he has a thing or two to say about how things are going to be from now on.
Morgan is just out to get laid when he runs into Jake. Having hoped for an encounter of the physical kind, Morgan is ecstatic when Jake takes him home. But events turn chaotic when he feels safe enough to shift in his sleep, and Jake discovers that Morgan is a wolf shifter. After Morgan is sent away things don’t go well for him. Not only does he miss Jake, his mate, with a painful intensity, he also gets treated even worse than normal for having dared to have some fun. An omega like him, with mismatched eyes that the entire pack thinks are a curse, certainly does not have an easy life.
Jake is also at the bar to have fun, and he is not prepared for the intense attraction he feels for Morgan. His initial reaction is pure shock, and he doesn’t really want to admit he misses Morgan once he sends him away, but in the end he is honest with himself and makes a step in the right direction by talking to Morgan – followed by some intense man-on-man action in the kitchen. What he finds out about Morgan’s past when the pack alpha shows up makes him mad enough to spit nails, and his behavior turns more than a little wolf-like in Morgan’s defense.
If you like werewolf stories, if you want to find out more about alpha-like rancher Jake and shy omega Morgan, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining and a good introduction to a new series, then you might like this novella.
