Sex and politics can be an explosive combination. Beatrice, wife to a conservative lobbyist, can’t imagine being out in the open about her preferences and orientation, but lucky for her, there’s A Perfect Dream. Secret parties that only the privileged have access to fulfill every fantasy and need she can think of. Beatrice didn’t count in meeting Sage, a woman who not only satisfies her in every way, but challenges everything Beatrice has believed about herself so far.
Due to graphic scenes of erotic nature, this book is not suitable for minors under the age of 18.
This short story focuses on a married woman who knows in her gut she is basically an “ornament” for her husband. Even after she realizes she prefers sex with women rather than men and knowing what her husband stands for, she choses to look the other way while somewhat benefiting from her marriage's financial advantages. As often as twice a month, along with a semi-intimate friend, she attends a floating private party for those who can ante up the fee that is really hot and sexy yet startlingly revelatory. Superlative!
Beatrice's life is stiflingly humdrum. However, she has lucked into an under the radar divinely exciting, blessedly titillating, and life rejuvenating escape activity. She shares these excursions with another secretly closeted friend who introduced her to A Perfect Dream, the organization that sponsors, manages, and coordinates these parties that are at different locations every time. Ingenuous. These periodic excursions are a breath of fresh air, a most salubrious and refreshing getaway. So along with Piper, her partner who equally enjoys escaping from the stifling norms that trap both these women, they indulge to the nth degree their hidden desires with and without each other, and sometimes in total darkness. Revitalizing!
Sage along with Tara, a friend of Piper, hook up with Beatrice and Piper at the latest location of pure hedonism as provided by A Perfect Dream. Sage is a bit of a mystery, but Beatrice is totally captivated with her. They stay together for most of the different venues and seem to be developing a bond. Some of those events were simply mind-boggling, but so beautifully orchestrated it was hard to recognize who were guests from working attendants. Unlike Beatrice, Sage appears to have a taste for the dungeon where pleasure is intimately linked with pain. Sage may or may not have disappeared for a bit to that curious 'level' as it seems that it occupies a separate area within A Perfect Dream's venue. Nevertheless, Sage and Beatrice really do seem to hit it off. Fantastic!
Much to Beatrice's dismay, more so than Piper, a very disturbing situation unravels after they return from their weekend of gratification and play. She is so befuddled, almost lost, but certainly has had her bearings shaken to their roots. My jaw dropped, too, as I was delightfully surprised by this reversal I never saw coming. This astounding flip really elevates this short story from a generally self-indulgent escapade to a life-altering shift. I found this curiously refreshing, even while I was quite entertained earlier. So, if your heart can stand the intensive indulgences followed by a jaw-dropping revelation, this story will most definitely fit the bill. Amazing!
