Book Review

There are a few crazy reasons for wanting to raise someone from the dead, but the one that features in this story is somewhere between disquieting and amusing. Chance wants the inheritance from his deceased uncle and since the man did not leave a will, it might take years to solve things legally. So the only way to get the money faster is to revive his uncle so he can cut through the red tape for Chase. What an idea!

Chance has good reason to want the money: first, he was the one who took care of his uncle for the last ten years, and second, Chance wants the money for his uncle’s favorite animal rescue charity before it has to close its doors. I really felt for him – he has tried everything but time is running out and even though Chance does not believe in magic, what other choice does he have if he wants to save all the innocent animals threatened by death? Of course casting a spell isn’t easy and Chase makes a royal mess of it that stinks to high heaven.

Dylan is Chance’s hunky neighbor and when he smells the evil concoction, he rushes to Chance’s side. He’s been trying to get Chance to notice him, but has not been successful because Chance is too focused on saving all the animals. The huge mess Chance has created is a way for them to get closer but even with Dylan being a bona-fide demon that isn’t easy. And then there is a price to pay for getting all fixed…

If you like your demons to be on the humorous side, if you want to watch a well-meaning young man get himself (and everyone else) into more trouble than even a demon can handle, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read filled with supernatural horror as well as a healthy dose of fun, then you might like this short story.
