Book Review

“Delicious Smelling Leather Wallet” is a short story of love, or at least lust, at first sniff. Bryson, or Bry, discovers a wallet on a sidewalk. Opening it, he realizes the masculine smell of the wallet turns him on. When he sees the picture on the driver’s license of the owner, Jonas, he hurries to return the wallet to him.

This is a sweet, touching story. Jonas the owner of a cell phone store, immediately hires Bry, who has his own landscaping business, to redo his two-acre lot. Jonas at 35 and Bry at 32 are both gay studs. Both are without boyfriend, too.

What I liked most about this story is that they somehow keep their hands off the other until Bry finishes the six-week job of turning Jonas’s neglected yard into a “lush paradise.” Then after Bry shows up for the celebratory dinner Jonas has fixed, and while the ribs—another delicious smell—are simmering slowly as well-cooked ribs must, the future arrives for these two.
