What a hauntingly beautiful story! Full of mystery and emotions from the first page, it pulled me in and didn’t let me go. The balance between spirituality and respect for the old Hawaiian gods on the one hand, and modern intrigue and machinations on the other is quite delicate but handled well.

While this story starts sounding like a “standard” dragon-turns-out-to-be-nice to the unsuspecting human sacrifice, there are also some hints at a different kind of plot. It is set in a fantastical mountain country that feels medieval, but dragons are well known and feared in this reality.

It was with a very heavy heart that I began this sixth and final book in the ‘Sinners’ series. I knew the author was going to tie up all of the questions pertaining to Miki, his mother, and his father, but I also knew that once I read this there would be no more new stories.

Horse theft was probably more common in the past, when people depended on them for more than today, but for those managing ranches or breeding operations, horses can be essential even today.
